It has now been three weeks since the Fellows class of 2025 began the adventure of life
At our first seminary class, John Kyle (Director of the Fellows program) proposed the
question, "Does God care about what and how you think?" At first I thought to myself, "Of
course He does!" But then, as is custom in the Fellows program, we dove in deeper. How do we know that God cares about our thinking? To answer this question we spent time reading scripture after scripture about God's desire for us to consider, think, reason together, understand, be wise, and set and prepare our minds. I was so encouraged at the thought that God does not just care about what I do. He also truly cares about what I think and everything else in between. And best of all, He wants me to share my thoughts with Him every day.
In my time with the Lord recently, I have been thinking about what it means to be "doers
of the word and not hearers only" (James 1:22). Believers are not called to just listen to what the Lord has revealed to us in His word, but to also do something with it. Loving Jesus implies some sort of action. During our first Capital Commons, we discussed the word vocation, a word that commonly refers to a job or occupation. The word vocation comes from the Latin word "vocare," which literally means "to call." In Christian circles, we often use the phrase,"God is calling me." But what does it mean that God calls us? And how does that relate to our occupation? God reaches down from heaven and asks us to die to ourselves and follow Him.
That is our calling. That is the action we must take. God sent Jesus to give His life that we might be able to follow Him. To do so we must hear His call, and take action to live for Him. Doing so affects every aspect of our lives, not just our occupation. Every day we must not only hear the word, but also respond to God's call for us to glorify His name from a heart that truly loves Him. Soli Deo Gloria!

About Capital Fellows. Capital Fellows is an advanced leadership and discipleship program for recent college graduates. Through graduate courses, a paid internship, one-on-one mentoring, and many leadership and community service opportunities, fellows develop and apply their gifts in real-world situations while learning to integrate a Christian worldview into all areas of life. Capital Fellows is a unique opportunity to live and work in the Washington DC area and to be an active member of a supportive community that seeks to serve the city with the love of Christ. It is also a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience in the workplace while deeply exploring God’s design for us as workers and contributors to human flourishing.
Pray for the Capital Fellows
Thank you for praying for the Capital Fellows each week!
Earlier this week, the Fellows began serving at one of our church's mission partners: Cornerstone Schools of Washington, D.C. Each week this year, they will invest in the lives of students by tutoring them in core subjects, as well as assisting with the after-school program. Please join us in praying for our Fellows to serve—not only the students and teachers there but also—the Lord with gladness (Psalm 100:2).
