Capital Fellows Leadership Deveopment Program

Sitting in It to Finish Well

By Callie Bolemon

I distinctly remember John Kyle telling us, “In two weeks, you’ll be 25% done with the program.” It feels like it was yesterday, and yet, in two weeks, we’ll be 100% done with Fellows. It’s hard to wrap my head around how quickly this year has flown by and that we’re walking into Easter weekend.

I was listening to a sermon recently, and it was talking about the prophecy of Christ in Isaiah 50, “But the Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know I shall not be put to shame" (Isaiah 50:7 ESV). Isaiah was prophesying Christ to come and His resolve to finish the work His Father had set before Him for the sake of His people. I’ve heard the Easter story taught from many angles, but this was new. To think of Christ as having a type of resolve to follow through on my behalf is entirely new.

As we round out the end of this year, “finishing well" has come up often. As we’ve been challenged to sit in the reality of the Gospel, it puts the idea of finishing well in a new light. While I want to finish well as Christ did and desires, I am more so moved to action and obedience when contemplating Christ's resolve on my behalf for the sake of my sin out of His love for us. My prayer in finishing well this season isn’t that we would race hard to the finish line or even speed up in the final 100 meters (while that is good and well), but that my friends and I might even more so sit in the reality of the Gospel and Christ’s resolve for us. Our present circumstances and “transition” fall strangely dim in the light of His obedience to the Father and resolve on our behalf.

About Capital Fellows. Capital Fellows is an advanced leadership and discipleship program for recent college graduates. Through graduate courses, a paid internship, one-on-one mentoring, and many leadership and community service opportunities, fellows develop and apply their gifts in real-world situations while learning to integrate a Christian worldview into all areas of life. Capital Fellows is a unique opportunity to live and work in the Washington DC area and to be an active member of a supportive community that seeks to serve the city with the love of Christ. It is also a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience in the workplace while deeply exploring God’s design for us as workers and contributors to human flourishing.

Pray for the Capital Fellows

Thank you for praying for the Capital Fellows each week!

Next Saturday, May 3rd, we will gather together for the Capital Fellows Celebration Banquet. This is a great time for family and friends to come and reflect on all God has done this year in the lives of the fellows and in our church. Please pray for this gathering, that God would be glorified.
