Capital Fellows Season 15 Has Launched!

By John Kyle

We are pleased to introduce the Capital Fellows Class of 2021-22! This is the largest group of fellows we have ever had. Our 15th class of Capital Fellows represents many states, universities, and majors. Although they come with different backgrounds and stories, they share a common love for Jesus and a desire to grow in their faith. Click on the image to learn more about the fellows.

Capital Fellows Season 15 – Annie, Brooke, Camille, David, Dawson, Emily, Emy, Jack, Kate, Lainey, Lydia Grace, Madi, Orlane, Samuel, Seth and Will – Martha and I are thrilled to have you here! We loved spending the week with you at the Kickoff Retreat. We're looking forward to seeing all that God will do in and through you this year. Welcome to Capital Fellows!

What is the Capital Fellows program?

If you're new to Capital Fellows or the fellows movement, here's a little bit about the program. Capital Fellows is an advanced leadership and discipleship program for recent college graduates. Through a paid internship in the Washington D.C. area, graduate courses, , one-on-one mentoring and many leadership and community service opportunities, fellows develop and apply their gifts in real-world situations while learning to integrate a Christian worldview into all areas of life.

Capital Fellows is a unique opportunity to live and work in the Washington D.C. area and to be an active member of a supportive community and vibrant church family that seeks to serve the city with the love of Christ. It is also a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience in the workplace while deeply exploring God’s design for us as workers and contributors to human flourishing. In other words, Capital Fellows is an amazing way to launch into post-college life!

What Do Capital Fellows Learn?

The Capital Fellows program covers a lot of ground. The unifying theme of the program is that Jesus Christ is the center of all things, the One that brings meaning and purpose to our work, relationships, and expressions of worship. He is also the one that guides our hopes, dreams, and fun. There are four sub themes of the program:

Vocation and Career - Recent graduates, even those that have worked for a year or two, often have questions about the meaning and purpose of their work. They wonder what God wants them to do with their lives and how they can serve Him in their professions. Capital Fellows is an opportunity to deeply explore these questions through study and hands-on work experience in a paid internship.

Leadership Development - Capital Fellows is, at its core, a leadership development program that helps fellows develop their servant-leadership abilities and style. Through graduate coursework, discussion and hands-on service opportunities in the Capital Pres Family and community service partners in the Washington D.C. area, fellows learn to lead with a sense of purpose.

Intentional Service to Others - As Christians, we are called to serve Christ by serving others. Capital Fellows provides many opportunities to develop eyes for the needs of others and to show them the love of Christ. Fellows are actively involved in the Capital Pres Family children and youth program as well as service initiatives in the Washington D.C. area. Our service partner is Cornerstone Schools of Washington D.C.

Supportive Community - Capital Fellows work closely together to know the Lord, explore his calling in their lives and serve others. Each year, the fellows start as a group of strangers and finish as a group of friends. Through retreats, weekly fellows gathering called Capital Commons, classes and shared projects, the fellows grow into a tight-knit community.

How Can You Support the Capital Fellows?

We would love to have you, as the readers of this blog, join the fellows and our leadership team on this journey this year. There are at least three ways to support the program and the fellows themselves.

Prayer - The Capital Fellows program is an intensive, yet rewarding experience. It requires work and dedication to the learning outcomes as well as the community. Just about every aspect of this program is new to the fellows. Would you join us in praying for the fellows throughout the year using this handy prayer guide? This blog is also a helpful way to keep up with the fellows each week. You can also keep up with Capital Fellows on Instagram and Facebook.

Greet the Fellows – On September 13th, Kickoff Sunday at the Capital Pres Family, the fellows will be formally introduced in each worship service. Between services, you will also find them in the hallways at high-top tables. Please stop and greet them!

Consider Hosting in 2022-23 – Opening your home to a Capital Fellow is an amazing way to support a fellow and this program as a whole. If you’re new to the Capital Pres Family, or have been around a while, and would like to give hosting a try, please contact us.

Grace and peace in Christ,

John

Become A Capital Fellow in 2022-23

We are now receiving applications for Season 16 of the Capital Fellows program!

Most fellows work in the marketplace - for companies, nonprofits, government offices. Three Capital Fellows work at our church each year as well. For these roles, we are looking for a worship fellow, a children's ministry fellow, and a missions fellow. These are special Capital Fellows opportunities because the Capital Pres Family not only pays your salary, but also pays your Capital Fellows program fees!!

The Season 16 program year runs from late August 2022 through mid-May 2023. If you are a college senior or recent graduate - or know someone that is - we would love to hear from you!

Pray for the Capital Fellows

Thank you for praying for the Capital Fellows each week!

As Season 15 gets started into this new season of life, please be praying for them:

  • As they get to know their host families

  • As they get started in new jobs

  • As they find a home in the community of the Capital Pres Family

  • As they learn their way around

  • As they meet the leaders and professors of the Capital Fellows program

  • As they learn to love and support each other this year
